Poster Design: Bay Beat Collective + Masta Justy

Meghna from Bacchus @ F&B has once again given me the opportunity to design a Drum & Bass/ Dubstep Poster. Most of the posters that I do are by interest and challenge; no matter how many years of experience you may have designing a music poster,  it will always be a challenge. More often than not, the artist or band will have their own distinct style of music; so two posters for drum & bass music can emit a completely different vibe, and dnb posters will differ from jazz posters will differ from bollywood music posters will differ from techno posters. This applies to posters dealing with sub-genres as well; a liquid dnb poster, will be very different from a junglist dnb poster (read last time's BassFoundation poster).

This time around, I was asked to create a poster for Masta Justy (opening act) & Bay Beat Collective (BBC) (headlining act). Below are a set of images that  can be found on the BBC page, which gave me an idea of the visual language that BBC had already used.

I wanted to do something distinctly different, and at the same time retain certain elements from the existing farrago- the gas mask & the fragmentation (linear & radial). Here's what the final poster looks like:

For those of you who want a closer look at the gas mask illustration, here it is! The illustration is purely vector, and hand-done with the help of my wacom- I'm still exploring & expanding the horizons of my design-related capabilities with it!

Would love to know what you think. Also, if you're in town and interested in attending the gig, the details are on the poster!
